How to choose a personal trainer – 7 key questions
Looking for a personal trainer in Koszalin? Ask these 7 questions before you sign up. Avoid common mistakes and find the right match.
Finding a trainer is easy. Finding the right trainer is trickier. Here are seven questions worth asking before you commit.
1. Does their specialisation match your goal?
A trainer excellent at athletic conditioning may not be the best choice for postnatal recovery. Always check whether the trainer has specific experience with your situation – not just general fitness work.
2. What qualifications do they hold?
Relevant qualifications include a degree in physical education (AWF or similar), recognised certifications (ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM or Polish equivalents) and ongoing education. Certifications alone do not guarantee quality, but their absence is a red flag.
3. Can they show results?
Ask about client outcomes – before/after, testimonials, sport-specific achievements. An experienced trainer will have concrete examples to share.
4. How do they structure sessions?
A good trainer assesses you before programming anything. Expect a health questionnaire, basic movement screening and a discussion of your goals at the first session. If the trainer jumps straight into a WOD without any intake process, that is a warning sign.
5. What is their communication style?
You will be spending significant time with this person. The relationship needs to work. Ask yourself: do they listen? Do they explain their reasoning? Do they make you feel heard, not judged?
6. What are the terms and policies?
Check: cancellation policy (usually 24 h notice required), package validity period, whether sessions can be frozen (e.g. for holidays), and what happens if you are injured.
7. Is there a free initial consultation?
Most professional trainers offer a free first meeting. Use it – it tells you far more than a profile bio ever could. If a trainer charges for a first consultation before you have agreed to work together, that is unusual.
Take time to speak with two or three trainers before deciding. Check the Koszalin trainer directory to find specialists whose profiles match your goals.
